One of many to come

We certainly hope that the beautiful Friday we had yesterday is one of many gorgeous sunny, yet cool, days to come!  It was great to get outside with the whole family (including Zadock) and go on a hike we haven't done before... so we hiked up from the hairpin turn on Rt23A, where Bastion Falls (?) is right next to the road, up the hill following the creek to the tallest waterfalls in NY, Kaaterskill Falls (see other photo).  This hike is a popular one with tourists in the summer, so we got this one done before the hoards of people start coming in... although as the morning went on more and more people were showing up on the trail, which thwarted my efforts at finding a geocache... (the kids in the area had the day off for a 'conference day' so there were a few families out that wouldn't have been otherwise).

So we had a day of hiking and geocaching.  I found 7 caches, bringing me up to 21 finds in my geocaching career... although I had 3 DNFs as well (DNF is short for Did Not Find).  

Upon finishing the trail we came upon a family who was searching for one of the geocaches I had previously searched for (with no success on my part or theirs)... they all very gracefully stopped their search upon seeing me and Becky (that's a rule of geocaching - if there are non-geocachers around, which you assume is pretty much everyone, then you shouldn't actively search for a cache... you must wait until the area is clear before you resume your search and hopeful find)... once they walked by us, I asked the dad how many finds they had that day... he very surprisingly said, "none yet."  I informed him of my 2 DNFs on the hike and wished him and his family luck in finding them.

Well, we wish our friends and family could have been with us on this hike, it certainly is a nice one... y'all will just have to get out here (not all at once though) and we'll take you to see Kaaterskill Falls.  Peace!
